Sometimes IBD and IBS get rolled up into one explanation, but the truth is that while IBS can be caused by inflammatory bowel disease, they are wildly different diagnoses.
Andrea (@dreeats) talks to Dr. Ilana Gurevich, a licensed acupuncturist and a naturopathic physician, about her struggle with Crohn's, what she sees most commonly in her practice, and how to marry conventional and functional medicine to achieve the best results for remission.

Everything You Need To Know About Short-Chain Fatty Acids

Everything You Need To Know About Short-Chain Fatty Acids

Typically, we don’t think about picking up the waste byproducts of another species and using them to our advantage. But when it comes to short chain fatty acids - the metabolites of byproducts of our microbes - there’s actually a lot we humans benefit from.
On this episode, Stephen Fleming, president of Traverse Science, talks to Andrea about what short-chain fatty acids are, what they do, what they mean in the body, and where we can find them.

A must for all interested in the microbiome

This is absolutely a fantastic podcast that covers all aspects of the microbiome. Andrea does an amazing job of interviewing various specialists in order to give you a foundational understanding of the impact of the microbiome on health. I also greatly appreciate the involvement of well respected Mahmoud Ghannoum from Case Western. Not only is he a well respected researcher, he has a great way of communicating it to the public. If you’re wanting to learn more about functional medicine, what it is, how it works and how it complements conventional medicine, this is where you will find it.

Episode #46 -Oral Health

This one hit so close to home, you guys have no idea. My best friend’s mom who lives in Innsbruck, Austria was in and out of the hospital for over 5! Years and nobody could figure out what was wrong with her. They even started questioning her and thought she may be making it all up at one point and she became suicidal as she couldn’t handle the pain and suffering anymore. After more than 5 years finally someone thought they should check her teeth. It was an infected molar in the back that caused all of her issues. Too many rounds of antibiotics, steroids and horrific meds have changed her body so much and she gained a lot of weight but after removing the tooth and treating it, she is finally pain free and healthy and on the road of recovery. Crazy right?! I forwarded the podcast to them and translated it for them! My fav episode so far, can’t wait to listen to all of them. Thank you Andrea, Afif and Dr. Ghannoum
